Purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) machines in an underground trackless mining environment. The role includes controlling the loading, hauling, and dumping of ore or waste material, navigating underground tunnels, conducting pre-use inspections, maintaining equipment, and ensuring production targets are achieved while complying with all mine health, safety, and operational standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (Compulsory)
- Valid OEM LHD Operator Certificate (Compulsory)
Experience Required
- 2–5 years'' working experience in an underground trackless mining environment.
- Minimum of 2 years'' proven working experience operating an LHD machine underground.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections and report any defects or mechanical faults.
- Load, haul and dump ore or waste material according to production requirements.
- Adhere to all Mine Health and Safety regulations, standard operating procedures and company policies.
- Perform housekeeping duties within designated work areas.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production and safety matters.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment within underground working areas.
- Report hazards, incidents and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Contribute towards achieving daily production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Other Requirements
- Must be medically fit to obtain a mine entry medical.
- Must be physically fit and capable of working in an underground mining environment.
- Must be able to obtain a clear criminal background check.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Candidates who are not locally based must be willing to relocate at their own expense.
- Ability to work shifts, overtime and weekends when operationally required.
