Junior Finance Intern

POSITION INFO:
About the role
We're looking for a detail-oriented and eager Junior Finance Intern to join us. You'll support our finance and operations functions, get hands-on exposure to real financial data, and build practical skills in bookkeeping, reporting, and financial administration. 

Responsibilities:

• Assisting with capturing and reconciling financial transactions in accounting software.
• Supporting the preparation of monthly financial reports and summaries.
• Processing and tracking invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims.
• Helping maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable.
• Assisting with payroll data checks and timesheet reviews.
• Supporting month-end and year-end close activities.
• Contributing to budgeting and forecasting support tasks as directed.
• Documenting financial processes and maintaining organised filing systems.
• Flagging discrepancies or anomalies in financial data for review.
• Participating in team meetings and contributing to operational improvement discussions.

• South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
• Must not have participated on the YES Programme before.
• Matric.
• Diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel — able to work with formulas, pivot tables, and data formatting.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in handling numerical data.
• Good communication — proactive, asks questions, flags issues early.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Eagerness to learn and take ownership of assigned tasks.

• Exposure to accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
• Understanding of South African tax basics (VAT, PAYE).
