Junior Field Service Technician

About the Role
Our client is seeking a motivated and technically minded Junior Field Service Technician to join their Technical Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical or electrical background who is looking to build a career in medical equipment servicing and support.
The successful candidate will assist with the installation, servicing, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of medical and surgical equipment at customer sites and within the workshop environment. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced Service Technicians while developing the skills needed to eventually manage technical tasks independently.
Key Responsibilities Technical Support & Repairs
- Assist with servicing, repairs, fault finding, and maintenance of medical equipment
- Support senior technicians with installations, commissioning, and decommissioning of equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance and annual service checks
- Complete job cards, service reports, and related technical documentation accurately
- Ensure all work is completed according to company procedures and OEM standards
- Maintain high levels of customer service during on-site visits
- Assist with after-hours support when required
Installations & Commissioning
- Support delivery, setup, testing, and commissioning of equipment
- Conduct pre-installation inspections and readiness checks
- Assist with customer training where required
- Ensure all installations are completed safely and professionally
Stock & Equipment Control
- Assist with stock control and inventory accuracy
- Participate in stock takes and report discrepancies
- Ensure tools, equipment, and company assets are properly maintained
- Support warehouse and logistics functions when needed
Health, Safety & Quality
- Follow all health and safety procedures on customer sites and in workshop areas
- Use PPE correctly and maintain a clean, safe working environment
- Report quality issues, customer complaints, and safety concerns promptly
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards and procedures
Administration & Training
- Complete reports, checklists, and documentation accurately and on time
- Attend team meetings and training sessions
- Participate in technical development and skills training programmes
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic technical experience with an electrical and/or mechanical background
- Valid driver’s license
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
- Customer-focused and professional approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Advantageous
- Relevant technical qualification or studies
- Experience in field service or medical equipment environments
- Additional license codes or technical certifications
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel locally and nationally when required
- Availability for occasional after-hours support
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
