About the Role
The Junior Chemist is the execution engine of the R&D & QC laboratory. The Senior Development Chemist designs formulations and test programmes; the Junior Chemist carries out the bench work – preparing batches, running tests, capturing results – and reports back in a structured, disciplined format so that every trial is traceable and every result is decision-ready. This is a hands-on development role with a clear growth path toward Development Chemist.

POSITION INFO:

What you’ll be doing

Prepare lab batches accurately from formulations issued by the Senior Development Chemist, including correct weighing, dispersion, milling and let-down technique.
Run assigned trials and variant comparisons exactly to instruction; flag deviations immediately rather than improvising
Prepare drawdowns, spray-outs and test panels to standard.
Perform standard tests as directed: viscosity, specific gravity (SG), non-volatile content (NVC), fineness of grind, colour, gloss, opacity, drying times, adhesion and stability checks.
Record every result at the time of measurement – no retrospective capture – in the Company’s standard lab workbooks and Excel templates.
Compile results into the Company’s standard trial report format: objective, method, results, observations and recommendation, submitted to the Senior Development Chemist within agreed timelines.
Maintain a daily work log of batches prepared, tests run and time spent.
Keep the laboratory clean, organised and audit-ready; clean equipment after every use.
Assist QC with incoming raw material and production batch testing during peak periods

What you’ll need

BSc / BTech / National Diploma in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related field (recent graduates considered).
0–3 years’ laboratory experience; paint or coatings exposure advantageous but not required.
Basic competence with laboratory equipment and accurate weighing/measuring technique.
Computer literacy: Microsoft Excel and Word for data capture and reporting
Valid Code 8 driver’s licence advantageous.
Precision and honesty in data

Work ethic and reliability

A Few Things to Know

Combination of laboratory and factory floor environments.
Regular handling of solvents, resins, pigments and reactive chemistries; full PPE compliance is mandatory
Standard hours Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:30.
Overtime and occasional weekend work are expected where trial schedules or production deadlines require, and are included in the cost-to-company package.
