Junior Bookkeeper

SUMMARY:
Our client is a well-established and growing business seeking a detail-oriented Junior Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This role offers excellent exposure across a broad range of accounting and bookkeeping functions, providing the opportunity to contribute to the day-to-day financial operations of a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting compliance requirements, and ensuring the smooth running of finance-related processes.
 
The Junior Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and ensuring the timely processing, reconciliation, control, and reporting of financial transactions. This role includes bookkeeping functions up to Trial Balance level, cashbook management, creditors administration, statutory compliance, inventory reporting, and management reporting support.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage cashbooks, invoice processing, payment processing, banking administration, and bank reconciliations
• Maintain cashbook payment schedules and related financial reports and spreadsheets
• Oversee administrative records related to company assets and ensure all registrations, renewals, and supporting documentation are kept up to date
• Monitor and maintain records of fines, penalties, and related payments
• Provide support and cover for finance team members when required
• Monitor bank balances, cash flow requirements, and investment transfers
• Reconcile credit card, debit card, and petty cash accounts, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete and accurate
• Prepare and process accounting journals as required
• Manage foreign supplier payments and maintain supporting documentation
• Process and reconcile foreign receipts
• Prepare banking-related journals and reconciliations
• Assist with various finance and administrative duties as required
• Prepare and distribute sales and management reports
• Resolve supplier account queries and maintain positive supplier relationships
• Prepare monthly accrual journals and maintain supporting schedules
• Conduct detailed analyses of operational costs and expenditure
• Assist with stock counts and maintain all stock take documentation
• Prepare VAT audit files and supporting schedules
• Prepare audit files and supporting documentation for assigned expenditure categories
• Maintain organised filing systems, robust internal controls, and accurate financial records in line with legislative and company requirements
• Process invoicing and credit notes
• Verify, file, and maintain import and export documentation where applicable
• Perform ad hoc bookkeeping, accounting, and administrative duties as required

• Minimum of 3 - 5 years' relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience
• Proven experience processing accounts up to Trial Balance level
• Strong experience in creditors, cashbook management, reconciliations, and month-end procedures
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience using accounting software and SARS eFiling
• Sound understanding of accounting principles and financial controls

• BCom Degree, Advanced Diploma in Accounting or a Certificate in Bookkeeping.

• Sound bookkeeping knowledge up to Trial Balance level
• Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience
• Working knowledge of VAT compliance
• Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills
• Residing within the northern suburbs would be advantageous
