POSITION INFO:

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage a high-volume litigation caseload from inception through to finalisation.
• Handle banking litigation and home loan foreclosure matters.
• Manage defended and opposed litigation in the High Court.
• Draft, review and prepare pleadings, notices, affidavits, correspondence and other legal documentation.
• Conduct legal research and provide sound legal advice in relation to matters under management.
• Apply and interpret the National Credit Act and other relevant legislation.
• Prepare matters for hearings, applications, trials and other court proceedings.
• Attend to court appearances and manage litigation proceedings effectively.
• Liaise with clients, counsel, attorneys, court officials and other relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor matter progress, deadlines, court dates and procedural requirements.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date matter files and records.
• Complete required administrative tasks and provide accurate reporting on matters and caseloads.
• Manage a demanding workload while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Work efficiently within strict deadlines and turnaround requirements.
• Identify potential risks, delays and procedural issues and address these proactively.
• Where required, assist with matters involving courts outside the candidate’s immediate jurisdiction.

Requirements

• LLB or equivalent recognised legal qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney in South Africa.
• 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Right of appearance in the High Court.
• Proven experience in banking litigation.
• Practical experience with home loan foreclosures.
• Experience handling defended and/or opposed High Court litigation.
• Strong working knowledge of the National Credit Act (NCA).
• Previous trial experience is preferable.
• Experience dealing with matters across multiple jurisdictions will be advantageous.
• Conveyancing qualification will be advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong administrative, organisational and reporting skills.
• Excellent drafting, analytical and legal research abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently.
