Junior Accountant/Bookkeeper

POSITION INFO:
This role is highly execution‑driven, focused on ensuring accurate month-end reporting, rigorous balance sheet reconciliations, and seamless inter-company transaction management. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and able to deliver consistent financial accuracy without relying on senior leadership for escalation or oversight.

This is not a traditional Finance Manager position. Instead, it requires someone who thrives on ownership, precision, reconciliation discipline, and independent problem‑solving to drive stability and strengthen financial operations across the group.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performing bank reconciliations
• Reconciling supplier (creditor and debtor) accounts
• Preparing simple month‑end journals (e.g., depreciation and accruals) under supervision
• Preparing VAT schedules and assisting with VAT return submissions
• Completing month‑end checklists and organising supporting documents
• Loading or capturing payments into banking platforms for approval
• Ensuring that payment documentation is complete and compliant
• Reconciling cashbook entries to bank statements
• Monitoring cash inflows and outflows and updating Excel cash flow trackers where required
• Maintaining accurate, organised financial and filing systems
• Assisting senior accountants with trial balance preparation
• Supporting audit requests by providing documents and reconciliations
• Processing payroll data for submission (typically not handling payroll end‑to‑end)
• Extracting basic reports (age analysis, trial balance, and supplier listings)

• 3+ years' experience
• Degree (advantageous, but not a requirement)

• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
• Proficiency in capturing financial transactions accurately
• Experience with bank reconciliations and cashbook maintenance
• Ability to prepare and reconcile supplier (creditor) and customer (debtor) accounts
• Knowledge of VAT calculations and support for VAT submissions
• Ability to prepare basic journals under supervision
• Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge
