JUNIOR ENGINEER / TECHNOLOGIST / TECHNICIAN (TRANSPORTATION)

SUMMARY:
We are seeking to appoint a junior technical resource to support a Transportation Division in Pietermaritzburg. This role is suited to an early-career engineering professional looking to develop within a structured environment while gaining exposure to transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will contribute to technical production, site support, and project delivery under supervision, with a strong focus on professional growth and progression toward registration.
The job title (Junior Engineer / Technologist / Technician) will be aligned with the candidate’s qualifications and registration pathway.

Minimum Requirements

• 3 – 5 years’ post-graduate experience in Transportation / Infrastructure Engineering
• Relevant Civil Engineering qualification (BSc / BEng / BEng Tech / Advanced Diploma / BTech / Diploma / NDip)
• Experience in:
  • Geometric design and/or
  • Municipal infrastructure design (roads and stormwater)

• Traffic engineering
• Transport planning
• Civil design for building-related projects

Technical & Software Requirements

• Proficient in MS Office (particularly Excel)
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Proficient in Civil 3D

• Civil Designer
• MS Project
• SIDRA

Job Description

The successful candidate will support project delivery across a range of transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.

Technical & Project Support

• Assist with feasibility studies, as well as preliminary and detailed design work
• Support transportation and municipal infrastructure projects under supervision
• Contribute to traffic engineering and transport planning projects where required
• Assist in the preparation of tender documentation, including specifications and bills of quantities

Design & Documentation

• Produce and assist in the development of technical drawings, reports, and documentation
• Review designs and documents to ensure compliance with quality and project standards

Site & Construction Support

• Participate in site inspections and construction monitoring activities
• Assist with implementation and oversight of construction work as required

Reporting & Coordination

• Attend project meetings and compile reports and notes
• Liaise with project leaders and relevant stakeholders

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all work aligns with established quality management and project systems
• Adhere to internal processes, standards, and best practices

Professional Development

• Work toward registration with ECSA (if not already registered)
• Complete required development and progress reporting
• Participate in ongoing training, learning, and industry exposure
• Contribute to research, technical inputs, and proposal support where required
