Purpose of the Job
To maintain, repair, and optimise jigs, fixtures, and tooling used in press and welding operations within a steel automotive manufacturing plant, ensuring production efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Matric (Grade 12)
Trade qualification preferred
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in jig, tooling, or mechanical maintenance within an automotive or manufacturing environment
Experience with press, welding, and assembly jigs
Strong welding, fabrication, and precision measurement skills
Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures
Competency Requirements
Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
Precision measurement skills and familiarity with gauges, micrometers, and welding jigs
Welding and fabrication skills for jig repair and modification
Troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, and repair jigs and fixtures used in press and welding operations to ensure accurate and efficient production
Diagnose mechanical faults in jigs and tooling, and implement corrective actions promptly to minimise production downtime
Fabricate, modify, or repair jigs and fixtures to support production changes or new product introduction
Work closely with press and welding teams to identify jig-related issues and implement improvements
Ensure all jig and tooling documentation is up-to-date, including maintenance records, calibration logs, and modification history
Participate in preventive maintenance schedules and continuous improvement initiatives
Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times
Assist with installation, alignment, or relocation of press and welding jigs within the plant
Monitor jig performance, wear, and replacement needs, providing recommendations to management
