Intern – (Social Science Researcher) 4 Months Fixed Term Contract (Wits PHRU)

Main purpose of the job:

• To conduct qualitative and quantitative research activities to meet the overall research objectives of the projects and that of the organization

Location:

• PHRU – Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

• Develop SOP’s and protocols for data collection
• Develop and design research tools
• Qualitative and quantitative data collection
• Monitor and follow data collection procedures
• Capture research data
• Data Cleaning
• Conduct statistical data analysis and write up results
• Compile relevant reports and manuscripts for publication
• Obtain ethical (ethics) approval from relevant regulatory committees/bodies
• Train fieldworkers/interviewers and other relevant staff on the requirements for the study
• Engage Community Advisory Groups regarding research studies, as and when required
• Monitor the progress of research projects through ongoing liaison with the Research Team
• Collaborate closely with other investigators on related studies within the unit and provide advice and/or guidance on
• Lead Cross-functional teams in a manner that promotes productivity within the projects
• Provide sound coaching and empowering of the respective team members as skills needs and deficiencies are noted
• study design, protocol, research tools, data analysis, and other research-related activities
• Oversee the duties of other team members to ensure optimal staff utilization and project outcomes.

Required minimum education and training:

• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Research Psychology and/or Social Science

Required minimum work experience:

• 2 Years’ experience as a Researcher

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

• Current good clinical practice (GCP) certification
• Willing to travel
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Excellent writing skills
• Use of evidence-based approaches in setting priorities for health interventions
• Promote harmony, teamwork, and sharing of information
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
• Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
