Independent Review Supervisor

SUMMARY:
The Independent Review Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and quality of independent reviews to ensure that processes, controls, policies and operational activities comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, internal policies and established standards.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree or relevant Diploma in Auditing, Accounting, Risk Management, Compliance, Business Administration, Law or a related field.
• Relevant professional certification is advantageous, such as CIA, CISA, CA (SA), ACCA.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years' relevant experience in internal audit, compliance, risk, quality assurance, regulatory review, or a similar environment.
• Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience conducting reviews, audits, assessments or investigations.

• Develop and co-ordinate independent review plans, schedules and review methodologies.
• Supervise the execution of reviews in accordance with approved procedures and quality standards.
• Assess processes, controls, documentation and operational practices to identify weaknesses, risks, and areas for improvement.
• Ensure that review work is sufficiently documented, supported by appropriate evidence and completed within agreed timelines.
• Maintain independence and objectivity throughout the review process.

• Allocate review assignments and provide guidance to review staff.
• Review working papers, evidence and draft findings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Ensure that review conclusions are supported by sufficient and reliable evidence.
• Conduct quality assurance checks on completed reviews.
• Coach and develop review team members to improve technical and professional capabilities.

• Evaluate review findings and determine their significance based on established criteria.
• Prepare or supervise the preparation of clear, accurate and objective review reports.
• Discuss findings with relevant stakeholders and ensure that management responses are appropriately documented.
• Escalate significant control deficiencies, compliance concerns or unresolved issues to appropriate management.

• Monitor agreed corrective actions and remediation plans.
• Verify evidence of implementation and assess whether corrective actions adequately address identified issues.
• Maintain an accurate register of outstanding findings and follow-up actions.
• Report overdue or inadequate remediation to relevant stakeholders.

• Keep up to date with applicable legislation, regulations, industry standards, and organisational policies.
• Identify emerging risks and trends arising from review activities.
• Support the organisation's risk management and governance processes.
• Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, compliance and continuous improvement.

• Establish effective working relationships with Management and Operational teams while maintaining review independence.
• Communicate review objectives, requirements, findings and recommendations clearly and professionally.
• Facilitate review meetings, opening and closing discussions and follow-up engagements where required.
