SUMMARY:
IR Officer
POSITION INFO:
Boxer Superstores is seeking an experienced and highly driven IR Officer to provide specialised Industrial Relations support to stores and management across the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing disciplinary and labour-related matters, ensuring compliance with Boxer rules and regulations, and representing the business during CCMA proceedings and internal enquiries.
This role requires a strong understanding of South African labour legislation, excellent case preparation abilities, and experience handling conciliations, arbitrations, disciplinary outcomes, and investigations within a fast-paced operational environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Relevant 3-year Degree in Industrial Relations / Labour Relations or related qualification
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within an IR / Employee Relations environment
- Thorough understanding of the Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act
- Experience attending and representing matters at CCMA conciliations and arbitrations is essential
- Experience drafting charges, sanctions, affidavits, and disciplinary documentation
- Strong administrative and reconciliation skills
- Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and investigative ability
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Ability to travel regularly
Duties and Responsibilities:
CCMA and Arbitration Management:
- Attend CCMA conciliations, arbitrations and in limine hearings to represent Boxer
- Prepare case documentation, bundles, witness statements, opening statements and heads of argument
- Consult with witnesses and relevant stakeholders in preparation for hearings
- Liaise with CCMA representatives, unions, attorneys, stores and management
- Arrange witnesses, evidence and travel logistics for hearings and arbitrations
- Draft formal IR documentation, affidavits and supporting submissions
- Ensure all deadlines and case requirements are met
Disciplinary and Industrial Relations Processes:
- Advise management and staff on disciplinary procedures and compliance requirements
- Draft disciplinary charges and sanctions in line with Boxer procedures and labour legislation
- Review disciplinary packs and request additional supporting information where required
- Chair internal disciplinary enquiries where necessary
- Ensure all disciplinary outcomes are procedurally and substantively fair
- Assist stores with grievance, misconduct and incapacity-related matters
Reporting, Reconciliations and Administration:
- Maintain accurate case records, reports and IR documentation
- Conduct reconciliations and follow up on outstanding IR matters and case documentation
- Monitor and track disciplinary and CCMA outcomes
- Ensure accurate reporting and filing of all Employee Relations activities
- Support compliance with Boxer rules, policies and labour legislation
Training and Stakeholder Support:
- Conduct training with store management on disciplinary procedures and compliance requirements
- Support management with guidance on labour-related processes and best practice
- Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including unions and the Department of Labour
