Hygiene Officer

SUMMARY:
Our client is committed to ensuring a safe, clean, and healthy working environment for their employees, customers, and stakeholders. They are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Hygiene Officer to join their team and support their health and hygiene practices in compliance with South African health and safety regulations. The role is based in Centurion and is on a contractual basis.

POSITION INFO:
Qualifications and experience:

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Attention to detail and strong observational skills
• Ability to train and guide others
• Good communication and recordkeeping skills
• Prior experience in a food production environment (preferred)

• Enforce regular hand-washing protocols (e.g., upon entry, after breaks, after restroom use)
• Conduct random checks and observations to ensure compliance
• Train and re-train staff on proper hand-washing techniques and frequency
• Ensure hand-washing stations are stocked (soap, sanitizer, paper towels)

• Monitor that all staff wear correct PPE (hairnets, gloves, gowns, masks, etc.) in production and packing areas
• Check for correct usage, cleanliness, and condition of PPE
• Report and correct any non-compliance or misuse of PPE
• Maintain PPE inventory and coordinate replenishment with relevant departments

1. Personal Hygiene Compliance

• Monitor staff for compliance with hygiene rules: trimmed nails, no jewellery, no strong perfumes, clean uniforms
• Support HR or supervisors in disciplinary actions for repeated hygiene violations
• Keep records of hygiene infractions and interventions

• Perform routine inspections of production areas, washrooms, changing rooms, hand-washing stations, etc.
• Verify that scheduled cleaning is completed to standard (floors, walls, equipment, waste areas)
• Maintain cleaning logs and inspection reports for audits and traceability

• Conduct hygiene induction training for new employees
• Provide refresher training sessions to all staff at regular intervals

• Maintain daily hygiene inspection logs
• Prepare weekly or monthly hygiene performance reports for management
• Document any corrective and preventive actions related to hygiene issues
