Hydraulics Technician

SUMMARY:
We are currently looking for a Hydraulics Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, maintain, and install hydraulic systems and components on the company’s fleet, material-handling equipment, trailers, and other logistics-related machinery.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
• Relevant qualification in hydraulics, mechanical engineering, fitting and turning, or a related technical field.
• 3–5 years’ relevant experience in hydraulic maintenance and repair.
• Practical experience working on mobile hydraulic equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, or material-handling equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic diagrams and technical documentation.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience in a logistics, transport, fleet, warehousing, or heavy-equipment environment.
• Experience with tail lifts, loading systems, tipping equipment, compactors, truck-mounted equipment, or similar systems.
• Hydraulic hose assembly experience.
• Welding and basic fabrication skills.
• Experience with preventive maintenance systems or CMMS.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and components.
• Hydraulic pressure and flow testing.
• Mechanical fault-finding.

• Diagnose hydraulic faults using appropriate testing equipment and technical procedures.
• Inspect, repair, replace, and maintain hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, pipes, fittings, and related components.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hydraulic systems.
• Conduct hydraulic pressure, flow, and leakage tests.
• Strip, rebuild, and test hydraulic cylinders and other hydraulic components.
• Manufacture and replace hydraulic hoses and fittings where required.
• Identify the root cause of hydraulic failures and recommend corrective action.
• Carry out hydraulic repairs on trucks, trailers, tail lifts, compactors, loading equipment, forklifts, and other fleet or warehouse equipment.
• Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
• Inspect equipment for potential hydraulic safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and equipment downtime.
• Ensure all repairs comply with company maintenance procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with mechanics, electricians, fleet controllers, and operations personnel to minimise vehicle and equipment downtime.
• Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and the workshop in a safe and orderly condition.
• Provide technical input when sourcing replacement hydraulic components.
• Assist with emergency breakdowns and field repairs when required.
