Role Description:
The General Manager/COO is a full-time, on-site role based in Evander, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring the efficient delivery of drilling services. This role manages operational planning, resource allocation, and field performance, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. The General Manager/COO leads and develops cross-functional teams, coordinates with project managers and technical staff, and resolves operational issues to keep projects on schedule and within budget. The position also includes overseeing financial performance, optimizing processes, managing vendor and client relationships, and contributing to strategic business planning. The role requires regular presence at the operational site to support hands-on management and effective communication with all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in operations management, preferably in drilling, mining, geology or related industrial sectors.
- Strong skills in leadership, team management, and people development, with the ability to build an inclusive and safety-focused culture.
- Proficiency in strategic planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices relevant to drilling and field operations.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills for working with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Ability to analyze operational data, identify risks, and implement practical, data-informed solutions.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies and basic familiarity with operational management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, business administration, or a related field; an advanced degree or equivalent experience is an advantage.
- Willingness to work on-site in Evander and regularly engage with field operations.
- Must reside in the area.
