SUMMARY:
Role Purpose
The Fuel & Convenience Manager is responsible for the overall management and performance of a fuel station and convenience retail operation. The role oversees sales, staff, inventory, financial controls, operational systems and administrative processes to ensure profitability, operational efficiency, compliance and excellent customer service.
The incumbent is expected to take ownership of site performance, lead a high-performing team, manage costs and stock effectively, and identify opportunities to increase sales and improve the customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Site Management
Manage the day-to-day operations of the fuel station and convenience store.
Conduct regular site inspections and operational checks.
Monitor fuel operations, stock levels and service standards.
Ensure the site is safe, compliant, clean and well maintained.
Implement operational procedures, controls and processes.
Ensure consistent service delivery across fuel, convenience retail and value-added services.
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and operational performance.
Sales & Business Growth
Drive sales growth across fuel, convenience retail and value-added services.
Monitor sales performance against targets and identify opportunities for improvement.
Develop and implement promotional activities, displays and customer-focused initiatives.
Build an understanding of customer needs and buying patterns to improve the offering and customer experience.
Identify opportunities for business growth, innovation and increased profitability.
Monitor retail key performance indicators and implement corrective measures where required.
Financial Management & Cost Control
Prepare and manage annual budgets and operational expenditure.
Monitor expenses, control costs and investigate budget variances.
Maintain effective cash controls and ensure accurate cash-ups and reconciliations.
Monitor profitability and implement measures to achieve financial objectives.
Manage stock losses, shrinkage and financial discrepancies.
Ensure appropriate financial and administrative controls are maintained.
Stock & Inventory Management
Oversee fuel and convenience store inventory management.
Conduct stock counts, reconciliations and variance investigations.
Maintain effective stock controls to minimise losses and shrinkage.
Monitor stock availability and coordinate with suppliers to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Ensure inventory systems and control platforms are used effectively.
Identify opportunities to improve stock management and operational processes.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Management
Promote high levels of customer satisfaction and consistently professional service.
Address customer complaints and resolve service-related issues.
Lead by example in setting customer service and employee conduct standards.
Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Work closely with regional management, operations control, retail operations, finance and accounting teams.
Identify customer trends and opportunities to improve service delivery.
People Management & Leadership
Lead, motivate and develop the site team.

Use operational and financial information to monitor performance and support decision-making.
Develop and implement improvements to systems, controls and service delivery.
POSITION INFO:
Role Requirements
National Diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting or a related field.
Minimum 4 years' relevant retail sales experience, with a proven track record in a managerial capacity.
Experience managing fuel retail, convenience retail or a similar operational environment.
Strong understanding of retail operations, sales targets and key performance indicators.
Proven experience in budgeting, financial controls, cost management and variance analysis.
Experience in stock management, inventory control, reconciliations and shrinkage prevention.
Strong knowledge of customer service standards and complaint resolution.
Experience managing and developing teams.
Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent MS Office skills.
Ability to interpret operational and financial information and implement corrective action.
Understanding of health, safety, compliance and operational risk requirements.
