About the Role
A well-established manufacturer of stock remedies, animal feeds, and veterinary products is seeking an experienced Food Scientist to join an exciting project focused on the development and formulation of an innovative new product for cats and dogs.
This is a project-based contract opportunity, ideally suited to a professional with proven experience in the formulation and development of purees, gels, gravies, sauces, emulsions, or other wet food systems.
Working alongside an experienced R&D team, you will play a key role in developing and refining the product from concept through to formulation, with full technical support provided throughout the project.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food formulation, product development, ingredient functionality, and process optimisation, with the ability to translate innovative concepts into commercially viable products. Experience within the pet food or related food manufacturing industry is required
POSITION INFO:
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the development of a product for cats and dogs.
- Establish product formulation, and related parameters to produces a shelf ready product at ambient temperatures.
- stablish manufacturing process and flow.
- Manufacturing pilot batches to test and establish formulation and ma process suitability and functionality.
- Conducting stability and palpability trials.
What you’ll need- BSc or BTech in Food Science, Food Technology or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in food product development within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience formulating wet food products, particularly purees or similar semi-solid systems.
- Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, including hydrocolloids, stabilisers, emulsifiers, preservatives and functional additives
- Experience conducting laboratory trials, pilot trials and supporting manufacturing scale-up.
- Experience with companion animal products, particularly cat and dog nutrition
- Good understanding of food safety systems and quality management within a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of pet food ingredients, feed additives, nutritional supplements and palatants
- Understanding of South African feed legislation applicable to companion animal products.
