SUMMARY:
An intimate privately owned lodge inside South Africa’s first World Heritage Site at the edge of Lake St. Lucia is looking for a FIELD GUIDE to join their team.

POSITION INFO:
This is a specialist guiding role suited to someone whose passion lies beyond the Big 5 - birding, botany, and smaller species take centre stage here, alongside game drives, boat trips, and beach safaris. The lodge operates on a hybrid power system (mains, solar, and generator backup), so a self-sufficient, hands-on approach is essential.

Core Criteria:

Minimum FGASA Level 2 (Trails guide qualification preferred)
Valid PDP, FGASA/CATHSSETA, DEAT registration, First Aid certificate, and Police Clearance Certificate
Minimum 3 years' experience guiding in 3–5 star lodges
Skipper's licence advantageous (or willingness to obtain one)
Genuine specialist interest in birds, plants, flora, and coastal ecology rather than Big 5-focused guiding
Strong people skills and the ability to work well with lodge staff
Adaptable to ownership's ethics and management style
Well-presented with a strong focus on personal hygiene and professionalism
Non-smoker and non-drinker preferred

Candidate Responsibilities:

Conduct game drives, boat safaris, beach safaris, and night drives
Carry out vehicle maintenance and routine checks, including oversight of other rangers' vehicles and adherence to procedures
Perform basic maintenance duties around the property
Host guests and assist with bar duties and general front-of-house support as needed
Work independently and take initiative across daily guiding operations

On Offer:

Salary: R10,000–R15,000 per month DOE
Live-in position - own cottage or bachelor unit with private kitchenette and bathroom
