Facility Coordinator

SUMMARY:
The University of Cape Town Lung Institute requires applications for a reliable and hands-on Facility Coordinator* on a Fixed Term Contract.
 
The main purpose of the role is to coordinate and oversee the day-to-day maintenance, facilities operations, service providers, health and safety compliance, and general upkeep of the Institute’s buildings and infrastructure to ensure a safe, functional, and professional working environment.
This isn’t just facilities management; you’ll contribute to an environment that supports impactful healthcare research, patient-focused initiatives, and scientific innovation by ensuring the Institute’s facilities operate efficiently and safely.
 
This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.

POSITION INFO:
⭐ What you bring:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Relevant Facilities Management, Maintenance, or technical qualification advantageous
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in facilities coordination, maintenance, or property management
• Experience coordinating contractors and service providers
• Understanding of health and safety requirements and building maintenance practices
• Be highly organised and detail-orientated
• Be proactive and able to work independently
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Be able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
• Valid Code 8 Driver’s

• Coordinate day-to-day maintenance and repair activities across the Institute and other sites
• Monitor the condition of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure
• Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and service providers
• Ensure health and safety compliance across buildings and operational areas
• Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and inspections
• Monitor maintenance stock, consumables, and procurement requirements
• Assist with office moves, space planning, and facilities setup requirements
• Maintain facilities records, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation
• Support audits, inspections, and operational compliance processes
• Ensure landscaping, cleanliness, and general upkeep standards are maintained
• Assist with emergency maintenance issues and operational support as required
• Maintain EDGE System throughout the Institute
• Maintaining Vehicle upkeep/maintenance/ training drivers
• Website / Intranet
• Maintaining cleaners/training
• IT
• LAB Facilitator (not essential)
• ACTG Facilitator (not essential)

• Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)
• Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week
• Based in Mowbray, Cape Town
