POSITION INFO:
Job Purpose:
To perform installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of rotating equipment (e.g., motors) in accordance with Ex (explosive atmosphere) standards and site safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair rotating equipment including Ex-certified electric motors and drives.
- Conduct Ex inspections (Visual, Close, and Detailed) in line with IEC 60079-17.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery using appropriate tools and lifting techniques.
- Carry out condition monitoring and diagnostics (e.g., vibration, alignment, thermal imaging).
- Maintain compliance with ATEX/IECEx directives and site-specific safety procedures.
- Document work activities, including Ex equipment records and maintenance logs.
- Ensure equipment integrity and minimize downtime by adhering to predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
- Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks.
- Liaise with engineers, planners, and external inspectors to coordinate work.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or faults immediately.
Qualifications and Certifications:
- Recognized engineering apprenticeship or relevant NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in mechanical fitting or electrical/mechanical engineering.
- Ex Certification to IEC 60079 standards (e.g., CompEx Ex01–Ex04 or IECEx CoPC).
- Additional certifications may include:
- CompEx Ex05–06 (dust environments)
- ISO or OEM training for specific rotating machinery
Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working with rotating equipment in hazardous areas.
- Demonstrated understanding of Ex protection techniques (e.g., Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex t).
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability.
- Understanding of hazardous area classifications and safety protocols.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical manuals.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
- Workshop role with potential travel to site on occasion.
- May involve shift work or call-out availability.
- Exposure to industrial and potentially hazardous environments.
