Role Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for an Electrical Protection Technician to manage protection, control systems, and primary high-voltage plant equipment at an industrial facility in Ngodwana. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will ensure optimal plant performance through advanced diagnostic testing and predictive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
· Test, diagnose, and maintain protection relays, SCADA controls, substation equipment, and high-voltage plant systems.
· Perform routine and preventative maintenance on heavy current electrical machinery (generators, motors, VSD drives, DC systems, compressors, pumps, and drives).
· Troubleshoot electrical faults using diagnostic software to minimize downtime.
· Maintain accurate protection system records within the CMMS software.
· Ensure full compliance with industry safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
· Be available for shift work and overtime when required.
Requirements & Experience
· National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).
· Minimum 5 years of technical experience in protection and control systems related to high-voltage primary plants.
· Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, SCADA systems, and protection relays.
· Proven analytical, troubleshooting, computer, and team leadership skills.
