Ecommerce Manager

SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for a commercially driven Ecommerce Manager to own and scale its online sales across its WooCommerce website and third-party marketplaces, including Takealot, Amazon and other emerging channels. 

The business has ambitious plans for its ecommerce operation and requires someone who can convert traffic into profitable sales, improve marketplace and product performance, establish strong external partnerships and run a disciplined, efficient ecommerce operation.

This is not a digital marketing role. Traffic generation is managed separately. The Ecommerce Manager will be responsible for turning that traffic into revenue through commercial execution, marketplace optimisation and operational excellence.  Approximately 50% of the role will focus on driving ecommerce sales, marketplace growth and commercial performance. The balance will involve managing ecommerce operations, strengthening processes and ensuring reliable financial and operational control.

POSITION INFO:
The Person:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Ecommerce, Business, Marketing, Retail, Information Systems or a related field would be advantageous.
• Proven experience managing an in-house ecommerce site, preferably WooCommerce.
• Strong experience managing Takealot, Amazon or comparable marketplace accounts.
• Demonstrated ability to grow online sales through conversion, pricing, product and marketplace optimisation.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to understand margin, costs and profitability.
• Experience with ecommerce fulfilment, logistics and operational workflows.
• Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing a high-SKU catalogue would be advantageous.
• Stock2Shop and Syspro experience would be highly advantageous.
• Excellent relationship-building, negotiation and stakeholder-engagement skills.
• Able to represent the business confidently with marketplace partners and service providers.
• Hands-on and execution-focused, rather than a strategy-only profile.
• A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel locally.

• Develop and execute the ecommerce sales plan in support of the company’s growth objectives.
• Drive online revenue, conversion, sell-through, margin and profitability.
• Analyse product, category and channel performance and take action to improve results.
• Optimise pricing, promotions, product availability, ranking and merchandising across channels.
• Identify new ecommerce platforms, partnerships and routes to market.
• Represent the business externally and meet with marketplace partners, service providers and potential channel partners.
• Monitor competitors, marketplace developments and category trends.
• Prepare sales forecasts and track performance against commercial targets.

• Take commercial and operational ownership of the company’s WooCommerce website.
• Manage Takealot, Amazon, Walmart Marketplace and other approved marketplace accounts.
• Ensure listings are complete, compliant, competitively positioned and commercially effective.
• Build productive relationships with marketplace account managers.
• Plan and implement marketplace promotions and product launches.
• Manage the product assortment and availability across each channel.

• Oversee the customer order journey from placement through fulfilment, delivery, returns and resolution.
• Co-ordinate with the distribution centre, stock teams, couriers and service providers.
• Monitor stock availability, cancellations, returns, delivery performance and order exceptions.
• Ensure compliance with marketplace requirements and service-level agreements.
• Work hands-on across systems, operations and finance to resolve issues.

• Work across WooCommerce, Stock2Shop, Syspro and marketplace systems.
• Maintain the agreed processes and SOPs for product onboarding, amendments and publication.
• Identify recurring operational or integration issues and co-ordinate their resolution.
• Continuously improve ecommerce workflows, controls and accountability.
• Reduce errors, rework, delays and duplicate maintenance.

• Own ecommerce performance reporting and provide commercial insight to management.
• Monitor revenue, margin, commissions, promotional costs, fulfilment costs, returns and channel profitability.
• Manage reconciliations and work with Finance to resolve discrepancies.
• Develop and track ecommerce sales, conversion, fulfilment and marketplace KPIs.
• Use data to prioritise action and support commercial decisions.

• Build strong working relationships across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Buying, Planning, IT, Distribution and Customer Service.
• Translate commercial priorities into clear operational and system requirements.
• Co-ordinate internal stakeholders and external providers to deliver promotions, launches and improvements.
• Communicate performance, priorities, risks and required actions clearly to management.
