SUMMARY:
We are seeking an energetic, hands-on and motivated Duty Manager to join a lodge in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal.
The Duty Manager will provide support to the Lodge Manager and Assistant Lodge Manager, gaining exposure to all aspects of lodge operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an all-rounder who is eager to learn, grow and develop within the hospitality industry.
As the lodge operates with a small team, the successful candidate must be comfortable working closely with others and must contribute positively to the team environment. A friendly, approachable and respectful demeanour is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lodge Manager and Assistant Lodge Manager with the daily running of the lodge.
- Oversee lodge operations in the absence of senior management.
- Handle day-to-day in-camp issues independently and use initiative to resolve problems.
- Ensure guests receive excellent and personalised service.
- Assist with guest arrivals, departures, check-ins and check-outs.
- Handle guest queries, requests and complaints professionally.
- Assist with coordinating housekeeping, food and beverage, maintenance and general lodge operations.
- Supervise and support staff during daily operations.
- Communicate with staff confidently, respectfully and professionally.
- Assist with staff briefings, task allocation and daily operational requirements.
- Monitor service standards and ensure lodge standards are maintained.
- Assist with stock control and general lodge administration.
- Assist with guest activities, transfers and special arrangements where required.
- Complete handovers and communicate operational matters to senior management.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional lodge environment.
- Assist wherever needed — this is a hands-on, all-rounder position.
- Learn and gain exposure to all areas involved in successfully running a lodge.
- Support management with any additional duties reasonably required.
POSITION INFO:
Requirements
- Valid driver's licence – Essential.
- Valid First Aid Level 1 – Preferred.
- Minimum 1 year's previous experience in a similar Duty Manager, Assistant Lodge Manager, Supervisor or hospitality management role.
- Previous lodge or safari lodge experience will be advantageous.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good computer literacy and basic administration skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to handle pressure and remain calm in challenging situations.
- Strong guest service skills.
- Ability to confidently and respectfully manage staff.
