Diesel Electrical Fitter (Rail/Locomotive)

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a qualified Diesel Electrical Fitter with strong locomotive industry experience to perform preventative and corrective maintenance, fault finding, repairs, servicing and rebuilding of diesel-electric locomotives and rolling stock.

POSITION INFO:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Service and maintain various classes of locomotives, specifically GE 34-400 and Funky locomotives, tractmobiles and wagons.
• Conduct electrical and mechanical fault finding, repairs and maintenance on locomotives.
• Fit and maintain compressors, engines, generators, auxiliary generators and exciters, including alignment checks.
• Perform web deflections on GE, GM, CAT and Cummins engines.
• Build and install engines, compressors, bogies, traction motors, alternators and generators.
• Rebuild and assemble diesel-electric locomotives.
• Conduct scheduled, preventative and corrective maintenance in line with maintenance plans.
• Perform brake testing, fault finding and repairs.
• Respond to breakdowns and customer call-outs.
• Maintain accurate service and maintenance records and ensure safe housekeeping of work areas.
• Work overtime and participate in standby duties when required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualification

• Qualified Diesel Electrical Fitter.

Experience

• Minimum 4 years locomotive industry experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience working on GE 34-000 and GM GL30 locomotives.
• Mining industry experience will be advantageous.

Certifications

• Valid Brake Certificate.
• Valid Red Card / Medical Certificate.
• Valid Drivers Licence.
• Rigging & Slinging Certificate 
• Additional safety certificates 
• Competent to work at heights and in confined spaces.
