Job Title: Curtain Seamstress
Location: Game Lodge, South Africa
Reports To: Lodge Manager / Maintenance Manager / Interior Coordinator
Job Purpose:
To design, create, repair, and maintain high-quality curtains, drapes, and related soft furnishings for guest rooms, public areas, and staff facilities, ensuring the lodge maintains a luxurious, neat, and cohesive aesthetic.
Key Responsibilities:
Curtain & Soft Furnishing Production
Measure windows and spaces accurately for new curtains, drapes, blinds, and other soft furnishings.
Cut, sew, and assemble fabrics according to lodge standards and specifications.
Ensure all stitching, hems, pleats, and finishing are precise and of high quality.
Select and recommend appropriate fabrics and linings for durability and style.
- Repairs & Maintenance
Repair damaged curtains, tiebacks, and tracks as needed.
Inspect all curtains regularly for wear, tear, fading, or damage.
Maintain fabric inventory, including remnant tracking and reporting shortages.
- Collaboration & Planning
Work with interior designers or lodge management to meet design and theme requirements.
Advise on practical solutions for custom or difficult window shapes.
Assist with seasonal or special-event décor updates.
- Quality & Compliance
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
Ensure all work complies with lodge safety standards and fire regulations.
Adhere to environmental and sustainability policies regarding fabrics and waste.
Qualifications & Experience:Proven experience as a seamstress, curtain maker, or textile worker.
Experience with high-end residential, hospitality, or lodge environments preferred.
Knowledge of different fabric types, linings, and curtain styles.
Ability to read patterns, take precise measurements, and follow design specifications.
Familiarity with sewing machines, overlockers, and hand-sewing techniques.
Skills & Competencies:Strong attention to detail and precision.
Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
Good time management and ability to meet deadlines.
Creative flair with an understanding of aesthetics.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical ability to lift fabrics, climb ladders, and install curtains safely.
Working Conditions:On-site at lodge, including guest rooms, common areas, and sometimes outdoors.
May involve bending, lifting, and working at heights during installation.
Regular hours with occasional weekend or after-hours work for urgent repairs or events.
