SA STEELWORKS – CRANE CONTROLLER - MELTSHOP
AIRPORT INDUSTRIA – CAPE TOWN
SA Steelworks has a Crane Controller position available. The successful candidate will provide support to SA Steelworks Meltshop Department. Applicants will be required to complete a skills test, only candidates with an average of 70% can successfully apply for the vacancy. (SHIFT POSITION)
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Accurate setup, adjustments, operation and maintenance of machinery/stands/ mechanism in the production line process
- Conduct daily inspection of relevant work area and report possible failures or unsafe working conditions
- Operate overhead crane to lift, move, and position loads
- Operate overhead crane to splice electrodes at ladle furnace department
- Operate ladle furnace
- Safely carry out lifting or transportation requests
- Check and record lifting equipment condition before use
- Report all defects to the Senior Crane Controller or Line Manager immediately
- Assist Senior Crane Controller with crane activities in the melt shop
- Maintain standard machine operating procedures when operating machinery
- General maintenance and cleaning of the work area/workstation/machine you are responsible for
- Must enforce and practice housekeeping policies
- Ability to analyze potential failures and communicate accordingly with possible solutions in a timeous manner
- Continuously assess safe working practices and ensure that all incidents are recorded and addressed promptly.
- Ensure shift handover is conducted thoroughly in the melt shop fifteen minutes before the start of each shift and ensure that all issues are reported clearly.
- Abiding by the regulations as set out in Occupational Health and Safety Act and
Company policies
- Quality control according to set standards
- Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) as per tasks assigned
Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria:
- Matric (Maths Compulsory)
- Overhead Crane license
- Minimum of 2 years working experience with a valid overhead crane license and in a similar environment
- Computer Literate
- Strong knowledge of machinery
- Ability to detect machine discrepancies
- Experience working in the steel industry advantageous
- Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment
- Willingness to work overtime and SHIFTS
- Must consistently be conscious of and compliant with Health & Safety rules and regulations
- Good communication skills
- Excellent time management
- In good health, physically fit
