Litigation moves fast. This role needs a legal secretary who stays two steps ahead.

An established legal practice in Brooklyn is looking for a strong Corporate & Tax Litigation Secretary to support attorneys working on complex corporate, commercial and tax disputes.

POSITION INFO:
This is a high-expectation environment where accuracy, pace and professionalism matter. It will suit someone who is confident in their legal secretarial skills, remains composed under pressure and can work independently without needing constant direction. Strong Dictaphone typing experience is essential.

Duties / Key Responsibilities

Provide full secretarial support to attorneys handling corporate and tax litigation.
Type legal correspondence and documentation from Dictaphone recordings.
Prepare, format and proofread pleadings, affidavits, notices and related legal documents.
Manage busy diaries, court dates, meetings and critical litigation deadlines.
Prepare court files, bundles, briefs and supporting documents.
Assist with court filings and electronic litigation processes.
Liaise professionally with clients, counsel, courts, attorneys and SARS.
Maintain accurate electronic and physical matter files.
Assist with billing, time recording, invoicing and account queries.
Handle sensitive legal and client information with discretion.

Requirements

3–5 years' experience as a Legal Secretary, ideally in litigation.
Corporate, commercial or tax litigation exposure strongly preferred.
Dictaphone typing experience is essential.
Good understanding of South African litigation procedures and court processes.
Exposure to SARS matters, tax disputes, objections or appeals is advantageous.
Strong MS Word and Outlook skills.
CourtOnline, CaseLines, GhostPractice or similar legal systems would be advantageous.
Excellent written English and strong document formatting skills.

Education

Matric / Grade 12.
Legal Secretarial or Legal Administration qualification would be advantageous.

Emotionally mature and able to handle direct feedback and high expectations.
Strong sense of urgency without sacrificing accuracy.
Confident enough to work independently and take ownership of deadlines.
Discreet, dependable and professional when dealing with confidential matters.

Salary

The salary will be market related based on qualifications, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range is up to R38,000 per month.
