Community Liaison Officer

SUMMARY:
Duties & Responsibilities

• Act as the primary link between the lodge management and local communities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, stakeholders, and organizations.
• Communicate lodge initiatives, projects, and opportunities clearly to the surrounding communities.
• Coordinate community development projects (e.g., education, conservation awareness, skills development, and employment initiatives).
• Assist in creating opportunities for local employment, sourcing, and small business support.
• Represent the lodge at community meetings, forums, and stakeholder engagements.
• Manage feedback, complaints, and conflict resolution between the lodge and community members.
• Promote cultural exchange initiatives to enhance guest experiences and community involvement.
• Work closely with lodge management to ensure community relations align with the lodge’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and conservation strategies.
• Monitor and report on the impact of community projects and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Assist with compliance to legal, social, and environmental obligations related to community partnerships.

POSITION INFO:
Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma/Degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Relations, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a similar community liaison or development role, ideally in hospitality, conservation, or NGO environments.
• Strong understanding of rural community dynamics, traditional leadership structures, and cultural sensitivity.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
• Proven track record in project management and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to speak local languages (e.g., isiZulu, Sepedi, Tsonga, or local dialects) advantageous.
• Knowledge of conservation, sustainability, and eco-tourism practices will be a strong asset.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to community areas regularly.
• Professional, approachable, and able to represent the lodge’s values at all times.
