Commis Chef Assistant

SUMMARY:
Support a busy chef and team at 5-star establishment in the Winelands.

POSITION INFO:

A 5 star boutique hotel is seeking a commis chef assistant, to support the senior chefs by preparing ingredients, performing basic cooking tasks, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and helping with inventory and restocking. This is an entry-level position focused on learning basic cooking techniques and following instructions to assist in the preparation of high-quality dishes.

The position is in Winelands / Stellenbosch / Franschhoek area, a great opportunity if you would like to learn from the best.

Requirements:

• Matric
• Certificate / Diploma in culinary arts preferred / or relevant experience
• Knowledge of current food health and safety regulations
• Ability to work under pressure
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to communicate effectively

Duties:

• Measuring ingriedients accurately for the Chef de partie
• Preparing meals by washing, peeling, and chopping fruits and vegetables and seasoning different kinds of meat
• Preparing basic salads and sauces for meals, as directed by the chef de partie
• Receiving deliveries and verifying that all ordered items are received and are good quality
• Taking inventory of restaurant supplies and notigying the supervisor when stock is low
• Disposing of the expired and spoiled food items stored in stock rooms, refrigerators and freezers
• Cleaning and ensuring that all the work stations are organized and properly sanitized
• Preparing all the meal items to be presentable as instructed by the chef de partie

The successful commis chefs will demonstrate excellent organizational skills and are attentive to the kitchen''s needs. Working alongside the chef de partie gives the commis chef an opportunity to learn and grow as a chef.
