We are seeking an experienced Civil and Earthworks Supervisor to oversee civil construction and earthworks activities on a project in Mali. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating contractors, ensuring construction quality and safety, and delivering site activities in accordance with project specifications, schedules and standards.
Role Overview
This position demands strong technical expertise in civil construction and practical site supervision experience within a multidisciplinary project environment. The Civil and Earthworks Supervisor will play a pivotal role in managing construction activities, promoting safety, and maintaining high-quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all civil construction and earthworks activities on site.
- Manage contractors, manpower, plant and equipment to meet construction objectives and project milestones.
- Monitor progress against schedules, promptly identifying delays and implementing corrective measures.
- Interpret construction drawings, models and technical specifications to ensure accurate execution of works.
- Oversee reinforcement installation, shuttering, cast-in items and concrete placement.
- Verify civil slab and building layouts prior to construction commencement.
- Monitor concrete quality, including slump testing, compaction and concrete cube testing.
- Ensure compliance with approved quality control plans, specifications and project procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, manage punch lists and coordinate completion of outstanding works.
- Maintain accurate site records, contractor diaries, quality documentation and construction progress reports.
- Collaborate with engineering disciplines, contractors and site management to resolve technical and construction challenges.
- Implement and uphold site safety, health and environmental (SHE) standards and requirements.
- Coordinate construction handovers, as-built documentation and quality close-out activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related civil discipline.
- Relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) management training.
- Minimum of five years’ experience supervising civil construction and earthworks.
- Proven ability to supervise contractors and manage civil construction activities effectively on site.
- Strong practical knowledge of concrete works, reinforcement, shuttering, earthworks and quality control processes.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, construction specifications and technical documentation.
- Understanding of construction scheduling, contractor coordination and resource management.
- Knowledge of current construction safety legislation, risk assessments and site SHE procedures.
Desirable Experience
- Two to four years’ management experience within an EPCM or main contractor environment.
- Previous exposure to mining or large-scale industrial construction projects.
- Experience working on international or expatriate construction assignments.
- Professional registration with SACPCMP or a related professional body.
