CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

This post manages projects in the Building Services department under Maintenance.  This include all buildings on all Campuses. The work is to be done in accordance with legislative requirements and University policies and procedures toward achieving certain milestones within set budgets.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Assist the Deputy Director of Building Services in developing maintenance strategies within the department.
• Assist the Deputy Director Building with Maintenance and preventive maintenance that escalate into projects.
• Project Management: Manage Capital Maintenance and Minor Work Projects for this department and other sectors within the University.
• Assist the Deputy Director to compile Capital Maintenance Budgets and other project related estimates.
• Manage all project specific budgets to ensure execution of works within budget.
• Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Sound knowledge of Project Management principles.
• Possess sound knowledge of specifications, bills of quantities, basic contract payment protocol.
• Know procedure to effect payment for projects.
• Experience in managing Budgets for projects.
• Has managed projects within approved budgets, time and quality specified standards.
• Possess good interpersonal skills.
• Self Motivated, ability to work unsupervised.
• Fault finding and logical thinking skills.
• Sound knowledge and experience of Occupational Health and Safety Act.

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for appointment to this post, candidates should possess a M+3 in Built Environment or Business Management. Must have a category B driver’s license.  3 – 5 Years relevant experience in managing projects in Built Environment in Maintenance sector.
