Bookkeeper- Shelly Beach, Durban

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial transactions and maintain accurate financial records. The role is responsible for supporting the finance function through effective bookkeeping, reporting, and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the accounting system
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Reconcile bank accounts, supplier accounts, and general ledger balances
• Maintain and update the general ledger
• Process invoices, payments, and receipts
• Assist with payroll administration (if applicable)
• Prepare and submit VAT returns (or relevant tax submissions)
• Maintain filing systems for financial records and documentation
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
• Generate basic financial reports (e.g., cash flow, income statements)
• Support audits by providing required documentation and information
• Monitor cash flow and highlight discrepancies or issues

Requirements

• 2–5 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or similar financial role
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Pastel, Xero, or similar)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity

Qualifications

• Relevant diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Finance (preferred)
• Professional membership (e.g., ICB or similar) is advantageous
