SUMMARY:
A boutique luxury Destination Management Company specialising in tailor-made travel across Southern and East Africa is looking for an experienced and detail-driven BOOKKEEPER to join their team

POSITION INFO:
This freelance-to-permanent role suits a meticulous bookkeeper who has worked within the travel or tourism industry, is comfortable managing multi-currency accounts, and can take full ownership of the books through to Trial Balance without close supervision.

Core Criteria:

Minimum 5 years' bookkeeping experience
Previous experience within a Destination Management Company, inbound tour operator or travel company ESSENTIAL
Proven experience working with Xero
Ability to manage the bookkeeping function independently, through to Trial Balance
Extensive experience with multi-currency accounting, including foreign currency bank accounts and transactions
Strong experience with bank, creditor and debtor reconciliations
Sound knowledge of South African VAT and month-end procedures
Experience processing supplier invoices and payments
Experience using Travelogic, Tourplan or a similar tourism reservation system
Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Based in South Africa, with the ability to work independently and remotely

Core Responsibilities:

Manage bookkeeping through to Trial Balance
Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
Handle multi-currency accounting, including foreign currency transactions
Process accounts payable and receivable
Reconcile supplier accounts and process payments
Complete VAT reconciliations
Carry out month-end processing
Support management reporting

On Offer:

Freelance retainer to start, with the intention of transitioning into a permanent role once both parties agree it's a good fit
Approximately 10 to 15 hours per week initially
Rate depends on hours agreed: R15 - 20kpm depending on number of hours worked
Fully remote, provided the candidate is based in South Africa
Intention to move to a permanent half-day position from early 2027, subject to business requirements and mutual agreement
