SUMMARY:
Bilnor Staffing Solutions' client in the mining sector is looking for qualified and experienced Blasters (3) for positions in Mooinooi / Rustenburg North West. South African Citizens and those living in the area will have preference.
POSITION INFO:
The main purpose of the job is to plan ahead so that all detonations can occur in accordance with both service providers and customer expectations. Apart from offering a safe, efficient and effective service to the customers, responsible for ensuring that all legal, SHEQ standards and standard operating procedures are achieved in the process of performing all related and expected tasks.
Responsible for supervising the performance of Blasting team by allocating work, giving instructions and controlling that the work has been performed in line with standard operating procedures.
Main Duties/Responsibilities/Key Performance Areas:
- To plan ahead so that all detonations can occur in accordance with both Company and Client expectations.
- Apart from offering a safe, efficient and effective service to the Client, responsible for ensuring that all legal, SHEQ standards and standard operating procedures are met in the process of performing the tasks expected.
- Responsible for supervising the performance of MMU Operators, Team Leaders and Blasting Assistant by allocating work, giving instructions and checking that the work has been performed in line with standards operating procedures.
- Competent operation of technical blasting tools (i.e. seismograph and blast video analysis).
- Manage and interpret blast designs for efficient and safe blasting.
- Responsible for controlling and managing blasting costs.
- Responsible for ensuring that all relevant documentation regarding Blast Reports are completed and submitted on time.
- Ensure that blast parameters are adhered to.
- Report any deviations to the Blasting Foreman.
- Ensure housekeeping on the block.
- Responsible for overseeing all preparations on the block,
- Required to ensure that holes are pumped with explosives to the correct stemming and densities.
- Required to oversee the stemming processes.
- Required to complete the timing design, oversee the connection of the accessories and walk the block.
- Required to ensure that Blast radius has been cleared to pre-determined safe distance as per prescribed standard operating procedures, and that all equipment and employees are outside blasting perimeters.
- Ensure that the required number of guards are set up at key points to prevent unauthorised or unsafe entry into the area.
- Approve and detonate a blast as per standard operating procedure.
- Any deviations from standard operating procedures must be reported to the Blasting Foreman.
- Conducting of post blast evaluation.
- Identify and analyze opportunities for value adding services to improve customer operations.
- Management of subordinates and providing on-the-job training are critical.
- Proactively address conflicts in-line with company policies and procedures.
- Comply with the Blast Designs.
- Magazine requisitions must be done and to be compliant with the Explosives Act.
- Ensure that temporary magazines are in place as per legislation. Job Related Experience and Skills

Grade 12 (with Maths) and/or Equivalent Qualification Tertiary Qualifications will be an added advantage
A minimum of 5 years opencast mining experience and 5 years in a supervisory position.
Valid Opencast Blasting Certificate
Strong Knowledge and experience in Electronic Blasting
Valid Drivers’ License
Valid red ticket (medical certificate of fitness) or be fit to undergo and pass a medical examination which must include an eyesight, depth perception and hearing test.
The ideal candidate must be mature and, act responsible, should have good communication skills, be able to work independently and in a team, a strong desire to learn new skills, experience in the total Mining, Drilling and Blasting spectrum, be able to multitask and be deadline driven. Preference will be given to candidates residing within the local surrounding areas.
