SUMMARY:

Automation Technician (FMCG)
Location: Pretoria
A leading supplier of advanced optical fibre test equipment and telecommunications measurement solutions is seeking a technically strong Automation Technician to join their team. The environment is fast-paced and technology-driven, making it ideally suited to candidates with experience in high-speed, high-volume FMCG manufacturing environments.
This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong electrical and automation experience, looking to transition into a specialised, high-tech industry.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities:

Perform installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced test and measurement equipment
Support automation and integration of systems within various technical environments
Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and control system faults
Assist with system upgrades, configuration, and performance optimisation
Provide technical support to clients and ensure high levels of service delivery
Work with automated systems, instrumentation, and monitoring equipment
Conduct site work, including system implementation and fault-finding

Minimum Requirements:

Trade Test as a Millwright (essential)
National Diploma or Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferred)
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment (essential)
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, and automated production equipment
Experience working on high-speed production lines and complex machinery
Exposure to instrumentation, control systems, and fault-finding in a production environment
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel when required

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Hands-on technical mindset with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and in a client-facing environment
Strong communication skills
