An opportunity is available for an experienced Auto Electrician to join an established commercial vehicle and fleet workshop operation based in Richards Bay.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, installation and fault-finding of automotive electrical and electronic systems, with particular emphasis on commercial vehicles, trucks, extra-heavy motor vehicles and fleet applications.
- Experience within a commercial vehicle dealership, truck workshop, fleet workshop, transport operation or heavy-duty automotive environment will be highly advantageous.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose, identify and repair electrical and electronic faults on commercial vehicles, trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Conduct electrical fault-finding using appropriate diagnostic equipment and technical procedures.
- Inspect, test and repair vehicle wiring, electrical circuits, components and systems.
- Repair and maintain starting, charging and ignition systems.
- Diagnose and repair alternators, starters, batteries and associated electrical components.
- Install, test and maintain vehicle lighting systems, including warning, indicator, brake and auxiliary lighting.
- Diagnose faults relating to vehicle instrumentation, sensors, control modules and electronic systems.
- Conduct electrical repairs to fleet vehicles in accordance with manufacturer and workshop standards.
- Assist with the diagnosis of CAN-bus and other vehicle communication/electronic system faults where applicable.
- Conduct preventative electrical maintenance and inspections.
- Identify electrical faults contributing to vehicle breakdowns and operational downtime.
- Carry out repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
- Complete job cards, inspection reports and relevant workshop documentation accurately.
- Work closely with mechanical technicians, workshop management and service personnel.
- Ensure all tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop facilities are used correctly and responsibly.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable occupational health, safety and workshop procedures.
- Provide technical assistance and support where required.
- Participate in breakdown, fleet or standby support requirements where applicable.
- Maintain a professional approach when dealing with workshop personnel, drivers, fleet operators and customers.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
- Recognised Auto Electrical trade qualification / relevant trade certification.
- Qualified Artisan status will be highly advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years'' relevant post-qualification experience preferred.
- Proven experience working on commercial vehicles, trucks, extra-heavy vehicles, HMV/MMV or fleet vehicles.
- Strong experience in automotive electrical fault-finding and diagnostics.
- Previous experience within a commercial vehicle dealership, truck workshop, fleet workshop or transport environment is advantageous.
- Experience with modern vehicle diagnostic systems and electronic control systems will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of truck electrical systems, wiring diagrams and vehicle electronics.
- Valid driver''s licence.
- A valid Code 10 / EC driver''s licence will be advantageous.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet workshop turnaround requirements.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
