Role Summary:
The Audiology Technician is responsible for conducting basic hearing tests, assisting with AI-driven diagnostic procedures, and ensuring a smooth, respectful patient experience. This position supports the early detection of hearing loss and integrates with broader diagnostic services such as radiology and general practice.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct hearing assessments including pure-tone audiometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and tympanometry

Prepare patients for hearing tests and explain procedures in clear, accessible language

Educate patients on basic hearing health and preventative practices (e.g. noise protection)

Assist with AI-supported diagnostics (e.g., dual fluorescence oral imaging), with training provided
-
Calibrate and maintain audiology equipment (e.g. audiometers, OAE devices) to ensure accuracy

Manage patient records in digital systems, ensuring POPIA compliance
-
Provide compassionate care and guide patients throughout the testing process
-
Collaborate with general practitioners, radiological technologists, and optometric technicians

Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
-
Monitor stock of audiology supplies and assist with inventory

Adhere to hygiene and diagnostic quality standards aligned with national health protocols
Qualifications Required:

Certificate or Diploma in Health Sciences, Hearing Aid Acoustics, or a related field from a South African institution accredited by HWSETA
-
Training in preliminary hearing tests (e.g., audiometry, OAE, tympanometry) is essential
Experience:

1-2 years of experience in audiology, hearing aid dispensing, or allied health settings preferred

Proven ability to perform hearing tests and maintain audiology equipment
-
Experience with AI-supported diagnostic tools is advantageous (training provided)
Skills:

Technical proficiency in basic hearing assessments and equipment calibration

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient engagement

Competence in digital record-keeping and adherence to POPIA

Ability to work efficiently in a patient-facing, fast-paced environment

Working Conditions:

Salary and Benefits:

Entry-level (0-1 year experience): R15,000 - R18,000/month (R180,000R216,000/year)
