SUMMARY:
Assistant Site Construction Manager

POSITION INFO:

Role Summary/Purpose  the Assistant Site Construction Manager is responsible for supporting the Site Construction Manager CR8(1) over the duration of the Project. To management and coordinate the day-to-day site construction and commissioning activities on the Project under scope. He/she will ensure that all related activities are executed/conducted in a safe and responsible manner, according to agreed schedule, budget, and quality and to coordinate and manage the on-site resources accordingly.

 

Essential Responsibilities             

Accept appointment as an Assistant Construction Manager in terms of Section 8(2) of the Construction Regulations of South Africa

Will report to the Site Construction Manager appointed as CR 8(1)

Responsible for OHS&E on site and implementation of the OHS&E and Project Execution Plans.

Ensure execution of the Construction & Commissioning tasks/activities in accordance with the overall site program

Working collaboratively with the end Client, Civil/Installation Contractor, and key stakeholders

Ensure all resources undergo safety inductions on site and the necessary PPE provided as required

Responsible for the day to day management of the site Health and Safety Manager, Environmental Officer, Project Scheduler, Lead Commissioning and Systems Engineers and other resources as required during project execution

Attended daily/weekly project meetings with the Civils and Construction Contractor and stakeholders to provide feedback on progress and to provide feedback to the team

Meet weekly with the Project Manager, Site Construction Manager, and project team to discuss progress and report on site progress/ risks/concerns

Develop a site project Risk Register and track on a weekly basis

Work with the project scheduler and project teams to develop a site Construction and Commissioning program. Commissioning program to be used as basis for scheduling resources by project teams and to be communicated to project teams

Provide onsite support for the management of Contractors, prepare induction and training as required

Issue respective permits/appointments in accordance with regulation for various construction activities

Provide support and leadership to the Commissioning Leads Engineer for BESS, Solar and Wind

Monitor, report and track change requests on a weekly basis

Manage utilisation of resources on site effectively

Set performance targets for direct reports and discuss and monitor performance.

Ensure leadership and motivation by establishing an open and transparent communication process

Ensure that direct reporting personnel receive the training and support they need to perform their duties

Manage the Construction costs

Initiate/Develop and Maintain processes and tools within the area of responsibility

Ensure a proactive link with overall project team

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Electrical Eng or equivalent

• Must possess SACPCMP registration in Construction Management

• Must have at least 5 years of Commissioning Experience

• Knowledge of project management systems and tools

• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Construction Manager

• Be willing to be based on site for the complete duration of the project (or relocate to the nearest town to site)

• Must be able to speak, write and communicate in fluent English

Desired Characteristics  • Previous construction and commissioning experience in Renewable Energy Plants

Project Term• 12-18  months
