Assistant Pastry Chef

SUMMARY:
Be a support to a successful Pastry Chef in the busy 5-star kitchen.

POSITION INFO:

This role is for a boutique 5 star hotel in Winelands area of Cape Town and suitable for you if you enjoy learning and developing your skills as a junior. Support the Head Pastry Chef by preparing desserts, pastries, and other baked goods, adhering to recipes, and maintaining a clean and organized workstation. This role requires you to follow the chef''s instructions, while also bringing creativity to the kitchen and assisting with menu development and production planning.

Requirements:

• Ability to work in Stellenbosch / Winelands area
• Relevant qualification
• Basic knowledge of professional pastry techniques and skills
• Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards  
• Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately
• Attention to detail and creativity
• Good communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Preparation and Production: Measure, mix and prepare ingredients according to recipes for a variety of pastries, cakes and desserts. This includes making basic doughs, creams and fillings
• Finishing and Decorating: Decorate pastries and desserts with precision and creativity.
• Hygiene and Safety: Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, adhere to strict food safety and hygiene regulations and properly store ingredients
• Kitchen Operations: Operate and clean kitchen equipment safely, assist with inventory control and ordering, and manage waste
• Team Support: Assist the Head Pastry Chef with daily tasks, support the team during busy service periods, and supervise junior staff in the absence of the head chef
• Menu and Development: Assist with developing new menu items and testing new recipes, and help with the plating and presentation of desserts.
