SUMMARY:
Assistant Mechanical Engineer required with Chrome mining experience to assist Mechanical engineer.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Mines & Works) will be advantageous

• Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within the chrome mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Experience with crushers, conveyors, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, and other mining equipment.
• Experience in planned maintenance systems is advantageous.

• Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
• Engineering standards and best practices.
• Preventative and predictive maintenance principles.
• Mechanical systems and rotating equipment.
• Root cause analysis.
• Reliability engineering.
• Risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Budgeting and maintenance cost control.

• Assist in planning and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
• Monitor the performance and reliability of mechanical equipment.
• Support breakdown investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Assist in developing maintenance schedules and shutdown plans.
• Conduct inspections of mechanical equipment and identify defects.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), engineering standards, and company procedures.
• Assist in managing maintenance contractors and service providers.
• Monitor equipment availability, reliability, and maintenance costs.
• Support capital projects, equipment installations, and commissioning.
• Maintain engineering records, maintenance reports, and statutory documentation.
• Ensure spare parts are managed effectively and available when required.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical support to supervisors, artisans, and operators.
• Promote a strong safety culture through risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Assist with budget preparation and cost control.
