Assistant Lodge Manager

SUMMARY:
The Assistant Lodge Manager is responsible for supporting the Lodge Manager in the overall day-to-day operation of the lodge, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, high service standards and smooth operational performance. The role requires a hands-on leader who can lead by example, manage staff effectively and maintain strong relationships with guests, suppliers and management.
The successful candidate will assist with overseeing lodge operations across Guest Relations, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping and general administration, while ensuring that the lodge consistently delivers a high level of service in line with luxury hospitality standards.
Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Lodge Manager with the overall daily management and smooth operation of the lodge.
• Lead and motivate staff, ensuring professional conduct and consistently high service standards.
• Welcome, host and interact with guests throughout their stay.
• Ensure that guest needs, requests and concerns are handled promptly and professionally.
• Maintain strong knowledge of lodge facilities, activities, services and surrounding attractions.
• Assist with coordinating guest arrivals, departures, transfers and special requests.
• Oversee and support Food & Beverage operations, including meal services, functions and special occasions.
• Monitor housekeeping and lodge presentation to ensure all guest areas and facilities are maintained to luxury standards.
• Conduct regular operational checks and address any issues requiring attention.
• Assist with staff scheduling, training, performance management and daily briefings.
• Ensure effective communication between all lodge departments.
• Assist with stock control, purchasing and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
• Monitor lodge equipment, facilities and maintenance requirements and report issues accordingly.
• Assist with lodge administration, financial controls, reports and daily operational records.
• Handle guest complaints professionally and implement appropriate solutions.
• Ensure compliance with lodge policies, procedures, health and safety standards and company requirements.
• Assist with emergency procedures and ensure staff are familiar with relevant safety protocols.
• Build positive relationships with guests and encourage personalised service.
• Support the Lodge Manager in achieving operational and guest satisfaction objectives.
• Take responsibility for the lodge in the absence of the Lodge Manager.

POSITION INFO:
Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant qualification in Hospitality Management, Tourism or a related field would be advantageous.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within a luxury lodge, hotel or safari environment.
• Previous experience in a luxury safari lodge is highly advantageous.
• Strong operational knowledge of Front Office, Guest Relations and Food & Beverage.
• Experience managing and motivating a diverse team.
• Previous experience working in a remote lodge environment would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of luxury hospitality service standards.
• Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience with lodge/property management systems would be advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence is advantageous.
