Alexandershoek is looking for a hands-on Assistant Farrowing Trainee Manager to support the daily operation of our farrowing section. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, reliable individual with piggery or intensive-livestock experience to take ownership of standards, support a team and help deliver strong piglet survival and weaner quality.

POSITION INFO:
What You’ll Do

• Support the Farrowing Manager with daily farrowing activities—from pre-farrow preparation to piglet care and weaning.
• Ensure farrowing rooms meet required hygiene, temperature-control and equipment-readiness standards.
• Assist with farrowing supervision, piglet processing, colostrum intake and early-life care.
• Monitor litter performance, piglet mortality, sow condition and animal welfare; escalate concerns quickly.
• Allocate daily tasks, supervise staff, coach team members and ensure work is done safely and correctly.
• Maintain high biosecurity, hygiene, health-and-safety and stockmanship standards.
• Assist with feed, medication, disinfectant and production-input control.
• Keep accurate PigCHAMP records, checklists, handover notes and section reports.
• Support Pork 360, compartmentalisation and audit-readiness requirements.
• Provide leadership cover when the Farrowing Manager is off duty.

• An agricultural qualification or practical training in pig production will be advantageous.
• 1–3 years’ experience in a piggery or intensive livestock-production environment.
• Previous experience as a senior stockperson or supervising a small team will be advantageous.
• Strong practical stockmanship, observation skills and commitment to animal welfare.
• Basic literacy and numeracy for completing records, checklists and production documentation.
• A reliable, disciplined and proactive approach to work.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as operationally required.
