Accounts Payable Supervisor

Main Purpose
To oversee and manage the financial and administrative functions of the Accounts Payable (AP) department, with a strong focus on business-critical KPIs such as cash flow planning and Days Payable Outstanding (DPO). This role also ensures the execution of AP-related key controls within the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) COSO framework. Additionally, the role includes managing the AP team to ensure all staff are properly trained, developed, and operating effectively in line with the company’s Performance Management Process (PMP) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the AP team in accordance with the company’s performance management framework.
• Supervise team members to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, maintaining accuracy and proper authorization of all transactions.
• Provide continuous support, coaching, and monthly performance feedback to team members.
• Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders to resolve payment-related issues that may impact company reputation or disrupt supply chains.
• Review and approve supplier reconciliations in accordance with AP policy.
• Monitor and explain monthly DPO performance, ensuring team communication and adherence to payment terms; manage exceptions according to policy.
• Continuously assess and enhance the efficiency of AP processes by implementing effective and scalable business solutions.
  • Ensure changes are clearly communicated and reviewed for effectiveness.
• Maintain a strong understanding of South African VAT regulations and ensure full compliance to mitigate risks from third parties, including SARS.
• Authorize first-level EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payments.

Key Skills & Experience Required

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• 3-year Finance Degree or Diploma
• Proficient in MS Office
• SAP experience (supervisory level beneficial)
• 3–5 years' experience in accounting or an AP-focused role
• Experience with vendor and ledger reconciliations
• Code 8 driver’s license
• Strong numerical aptitude
• Prior supervisory experience is advantageous
