Accountant

SUMMARY:
Our client, a well-established company based in Modimolle, is looking for an experienced Accountant to take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting function, payroll administration, reconciliations and month-end processing.

Location: Modimole, Limpopo
Salary: Negotiable, up to R38,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications

Position Overview

Our client, a well-established company based in Modimolle, is looking for an experienced Accountant to take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting function, payroll administration, reconciliations and month-end processing.

This is a hands-on position suited to an individual who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the full accounting function.

Minimum Requirements

• B. Comm Accounting, B. Compt or National Diploma in Accounting.
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant accounting experience.
• Experience with Sage Evolution.
• Experience with VIP Premier Payroll.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and month-end procedures.
• Strong Excel and general computer skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Understanding and/or experience of basic HR duties will be beneficial, but is not a deal breaker.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Administration

• Processing and maintaining accounting transactions accurately.
• Processing bank statements and performing bank reconciliations.
• Full debtors and creditors oversight.
• Reviewing and monitoring outstanding debtors and creditors.
• Loading creditors for payment and ensuring payments are processed accurately.
• Processing month-end journals, including:
• Accruals
• Prepayments
• Provisions
• Other required adjustment journals
• Preparing and completing monthly reconciliations.
• Reconciliation of bank, debtors, creditors, control accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
• Monitoring expenses and ensuring transactions are correctly allocated.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
• Assisting with audit requirements and providing supporting documentation when required.
• Ensuring financial procedures and internal controls are followed.

Payroll

• Processing monthly payroll for salaried employees using VIP Premier Payroll.
• Checking and verifying timesheets before payroll processing.
• Ensuring payroll information, deductions, leave and other changes are accurately captured.
• Preparing payroll-related reconciliations and reports.

Basic HR Administration

• Assisting with basic HR administration and employee records.
• Assisting with leave and attendance administration.
• Maintaining employee information and documentation.
• Assisting with onboarding and general employee administration where required.
• Liaising with management and employees regarding payroll and HR-related queries.

General

• Providing financial information and reports to management.
• Identifying discrepancies and following up on outstanding issues.
• Supporting the Financial Manager/management with financial and administrative requirements.
• Ensuring confidentiality of financial, payroll and employee information.
• Performing any other reasonable accounting, payroll, financial or administrative duties required by management.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, practical Accountant who is comfortable managing a broad range of accounting and payroll responsibilities. The ability to work independently, identify discrepancies and take ownership of deadlines will be important.

Experience with Sage Evolution and VIP Premier Payroll, will be highly advantageous.
