Accountant

POSITION INFO:

This role goes beyond traditional accounting — you will play a key role in driving financial accuracy, supporting strategic decisions, and strengthening financial controls across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare quarterly management accounts and monthly reporting packs
• Produce sales analysis, reconciliations, and performance reports
• Ensure accuracy of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting
• Monitor financial performance and highlight variances and trends
• Support financial analysis to guide business decisions

Accounting & Payroll Oversight

• Maintain integrity of the general ledger and financial records
• Review work completed by the bookkeeper (AP, AR, and banking entries)
• Perform bank, balance sheet, and account reconciliations
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions
• Manage fixed assets register and petty cash
• Process online banking transactions and foreign payments
• Prepare VAT returns and statutory submissions
• Support payroll processes (Sage Payroll)
• Maintain stock valuation schedules for insurance purposes

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure adherence to accounting standards and financial regulations
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and procedures
• Prepare documentation for audits and external reviews
• Ensure compliance with tax and statutory reporting requirements

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Assist with budgets and financial forecasts
• Track performance against budget and provide insights
• Support financial planning and decision-making

Process Improvement

• Identify and implement process and system improvements
• Drive automation and reporting efficiencies
• Enhance financial visibility across the business

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Experience

• 4 – 7 years’ experience in a Financial Accounting role
• Proven experience in financial reporting and management accounts
• Exposure to accounting software / ERP systems

Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Advanced Excel and analytical capability
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Advantageous Experience

• Background within an audit or accounting firm
• Experience in fast-paced or high-growth environments
• Exposure to systems implementation or optimisation projects
