AML Remediation Officer (Anti-Money Laundering Officer / Risk & Compliance Officer)

Salary: R20 000.00 – R25 000.00 CTC per month

Introduction

We are seeking an experienced AML Remediation Officer to support an AML remediation project through comprehensive reviews of existing client records in line with Client Due Diligence (CDD) and, where applicable, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) requirements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring client information and supporting documentation are accurate, complete, current and aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and internal compliance standards. The role will involve identifying outstanding or deficient information, conducting client risk assessments, performing PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening, and escalating potential financial crime risks where required.

 

POSITION INFO:

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct AML remediation reviews of existing client files in accordance with applicable FIC Act requirements, regulations and internal policies.
• Review and validate client information, supporting documentation and risk profiles.
• Identify and remediate incomplete, deficient, outdated or inconsistent client information.
• Review and verify:
  • Legal entity registration and related documentation.
  • Related-party information, including authorised persons.
  • Source of Funds and Source of Wealth information.
  • Ownership structures and beneficiary information.
• Obtain and follow up on outstanding documentation and information required to complete remediation reviews.
• Conduct client risk assessments and identify potential financial crime risks.
• Perform PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening.
• Escalate potential financial crime concerns for further investigation in accordance with established procedures.
• Ensure client records are accurately updated and maintained on the relevant systems.
• Maintain complete audit trails and supporting evidence for remediation decisions.
• Assist with preparing files for Compliance review and sign-off.
• Support internal and external audit requests where required.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail across all remediation activities.
• Manage an assigned portfolio effectively while meeting required deadlines and quality standards.

Requirements

Qualifications

Essential:

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Bachelor's degree.

Advantageous:

• ACAMS certification or currently studying towards ACAMS.
• Compliance Institute qualification.
• Relevant qualification or certification in Compliance, Risk Management and/or AML.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in one or more of the following:
  • AML Onboarding Officer / Analyst.
  • AML Remediation Officer / Analyst.
  • Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) Officer / Analyst.

Technical Competencies

• Strong analytical and investigative skills.
• Accurate document verification and validation.
• Strong research and information-gathering abilities.
• Ability to identify, assess and escalate risk.
• Working knowledge of AML, CDD and EDD principles.
• Strong understanding of client due diligence and financial crime risk indicators.
