Yard Supervisor - Durban

• Planning movement of work through the yard to meet client requirements
• Utilising yard space efficiently
• Ensuring daily shift planning is efficient & effectively communicated
• Ensuring client’s stock requirements are met
• Supervising all container movements
• Rotation of container as per FIFO method
• Yard cleaning and maintenance
• Managing the team effectively to capitalise on productivity
• Co-ordinate and control all estimations for containers
• Control and co-ordinate activities to minimise overtime
• Compliance with OHS Act and Regulations and other statutes as applicable
• Minimising of internal movements, double handling of units and breaking of stacks
• Daily inspection of forklifts
• Controlling of excess hours on container operating machines
• Diesel control relating to all operational machines
• Ensuring yard surfaces are in a safe condition
• Training and licensing
• Ensuring all staff comply with safety requirements
• Liaising with Clients on all shipping requirements
• Regular depot stock counts

Education, experience and competencies required:

• Grade 12/Matric
• 4 + years relevant experience
• Experience in, and knowledge of, container handling and storage
• Ability to supervise and motivate a workforce
• Safety, health and environmental requirements
• Forklift driving (heavy duty, high reach)
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organisation
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardised situations
• General physical fitness is a requirement
• Must be able to travel to and from work during, and outside of, normal working hours
