POSITION INFO:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Workshop Toolroom Manager with approx. 5 years of experience in a production environment; injection moulding, blow moulding and/or other plastics machinery would be advantageous. The company is well established having been operating in South Africa for over 30 years. They supply and export plastic houseware, kitchenware and baby care products to national chain stores, national and independent wholesalers, corporate companies and medium to small enterprises.

Primary purpose: Manage and co-ordinate toolroom functions and activities and ensure that targets are met. Ensure adequate resources are available. Manage performance of subordinates.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of toolroom employees, contractors, or vendors engaged in production or processing of tools in the company’s workshop/toolroom & facility(ies).
  • Supervision of team members includes training and development, communication and enforcement of company policies and procedures, performance coaching and evaluation, and written documentation of team member performance issues.
  • Oversee and direct team members in a safe, quality-minded and productive manner to attain production priorities as scheduled.
  • Address unsafe performance of team members either through training or progressive discipline as appropriate.
  • Ensure all toolroom team members attend required safety and shift communication on a daily and weekly basis to ensure all safety related training and communication is received in a timely manner.
  • Support all accident incident investigations in the plant as needed, and ensure all such investigations involving a member of the toolroom team are completed in full and turned timeously.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences, to meet production goals.
  • Calculate labour and equipment requirements and production specifications, using standard formulas.
  • Confer with tool makers to coordinate operations and activities within and between departments.
  • Manage tool room operations to maximize resources to achieve productivity and profitability.
  • Ensure operators conform to tool room production or processing standards.
  • Suggest methods to improve area operations, processes, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers.
  • Implement and uphold a robust preventative maintenance program.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role/environment
  • Formal qualification or trade will be advantageous
  • Experience in plastic injection moulding, blow moulding or other plastics machinery will be advantageous
