About the Position
A privately owned reserve near
Simonstown is seeking a dedicated and experienced
Wildlife/Reserve Manager to oversee the effective conservation, habitat management, game monitoring, and eco-tourism development of the property. This is a hands-on, operational role requiring strong leadership, ecological knowledge, and a deep passion for wildlife and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and manage conservation strategies and habitat rehabilitation
- Monitor and maintain game populations, fences, water systems, and roads
- Oversee anti-poaching measures and patrols
- Manage a small team of reserve staff and field rangers
- Develop and maintain ecological records and wildlife monitoring data
- Oversee veld management, invasive species control, and controlled burns
- Assist with eco-tourism activities, guided walks, and conservation education
- Manage equipment, infrastructure, and budgets for the reserve
- Liaise with owners, consultants, and external stakeholders on conservation and land-use matters
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Nature Conservation, Wildlife Management, or a related field
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a similar reserve management role
- Sound knowledge of South African biodiversity, ecology, and land management practices
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Experience in game capture, monitoring, and reserve infrastructure maintenance
- Proficient in record keeping and reporting
- Physically fit and comfortable working in the field for extended periods
- Valid EB Driver’s License (Code 08); PDP advantageous
- Firearm competency (advantageous)
- South African citizen or permanent resident
