SUMMARY:
To operate heavy-duty water tank trucks responsibly to provide critical bulk water distribution to communities, commercial networks, informal settlements, and emergency areas during service interruptions.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities
1. Vehicle & Pump Operations
• Operate Code C1 or EC heavy motor vehicles safely according to the Road Traffic Act.
• Navigate challenging urban and informal settlement terrains to distribute water.
• Manage bulk auxiliary systems including hydraulic pumps, hoses, and spray valves.
• Control Water delivery to prevent spillages/leaks or site flooding hazards.
2. Service Delivery & Distribution
• Deliver potable water to designated stationary tanks, hospitals, and designated zones.
• Fill and flush local water reticulation equipment as directed by site supervisors.
• Collaborate with Network Inspectors to resolve customer service delivery issues.
3. Maintenance & Safety Compliance
• Conduct mandatory pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle including tyres, brakes, fluids, and leaks.
• Report vehicle, pump, or mechanical tank defects immediately to your Supervisor.
• Enforce statutory Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHASA) regulations on site.
• Maintain mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including overalls and highvisibility gear.
• Take caution when delivering services where there are pedestrians especially children.
4. Administration & Logs:
• Maintain precise physical or electronic daily vehicle logbooks and delivery sheets.
• Record delivery timestamps, exact drop-off locations, and total water volume distributed
Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Licensing
• Grade 10 or NQF 2
• Valid Code EC (Code 14) driver''s licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit for goods (PrDP Goods).
Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating yellow machines, mobile plants, or heavy commercial vehicles.
• Prior routine preventative maintenance experience with heavy diesel engines or municipal operations.
Competency:
• Thorough operating knowledge of bulk water tankers, pumps.
• Physical fitness to lift auxiliary hoses and manoeuvre manual valves.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills to track route schedules and record meter counts.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, weekend shifts, and during public holidays.
